Artist Statement
"My work is an expression of “nothing” evolving into” something”. I’ve become entranced by the subtleties of paint and the boundless possibilities offered by the addition of color-altering mediums and mixed media.
Beginning with a single brush stroke, the paint bends its way onto this space. Habit propels us to categorize and rationalize what we see. Observation affects perception. Closer examination reveals an answer simpler than mere rationality can provide- in turn, are faced with a beautiful personification of the art of letting go. Releasing control over the tendency to look for a deeper meaning in colors, lines, and textures comprising a painting and willfully forgetting our reflex to search for a horizon or a point of origin in an attempt to orient ourselves allows us to experience complete immersion without expectation. Learning that there is no true ‘beginning’ or ‘end’, we are awake with a new freedom.
Simultaneously caring and not giving a damn, the natural ability to remain tranquil with the intrinsic knowledge that there will indeed be progress in our abilities to see– inwardly and outwardly. Pontification of purpose is a nonpoint. There is peace in the necessity to realize simply this: it is what it is"
