About Systems and Solutions
In the contemporary art world, advances in technology and increased interest in various new media, have forced painters and sculptors, at times, to question the relevance of their own work. In a conversation with an art audience with a high level of sophistication, (but short attention span), artists seek new ways to be visually exciting, yet still true to the methods that called to them in the first place.
The five artists included in the exhibition, Systems and Solutions – painters, sculptors, and a master print-maker, question formal elements, bending, twisting, and intermingling – as well as creating new rules and systems to present solutions using traditional media that may open new pathways to the unexpected.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Bernardo Cantu
Born seven miles from the Tex-Mex border in Weslaco, Texas. Bernardo Cantu, a recent MFA-Drawing & Painting graduate from University of North Texas, is featured in New American Paintings, volume 90, participated as an artist in the 2011 Texas Biennial, and in 2012, Cantu was included in the exhibition, Cura! Cura! Cura! at the Bathhouse Cultural Center in Dallas, Texas. His body of work delivers a socially significant message as it explores questions of cultural identity, tears through barriers, stretches limits and creates vast new possibilities. He currently is an adjunct art instructor at University of North Texas in Denton.
Chance Dunlap
Born in Lubbock, Texas, artist Chance Dunlap has been exhibiting his work in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas since he was first introduced to the world of art 9 years ago, gaining entry into many regional juried exhibitions. Dunlap received his BFA in Visual Art from the University of Southeastern Oklahoma in 2011, and is currently pursuing his MFA in Sculpture at the University of North Texas. Dunlap recently had his first solo exhibition in Dallas, entitled Metalicious, held at Ro2 Art in December, 2012.

Terry Hays
Born and raised in Texas, Terry Hays received his BS from West Texas State University and his MFA from Texas Christian University. After spending several years as an instructor at universities in Canada and Texas, Hays returned to the studio to concentrate on developing intricate works of painted sculpture, drawing from art history, contemporary culture, outsider art, and his own work as a scenic artist on theatrical sets In 2012, Terry Hays received much acclaim for his solo exhibition, Irreversible Change at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas.
