FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Ro2 Art is excited to present Working On It, a solo exhibition by artist Jeff Parrott. The opening reception will take place Saturday, July 21, from 7 to 10pm, and will run through August 26, 2012. The exhibition will take place at Ro2 Art Uptown at West Village, located at 3699 McKinney Avenue, Suite 312, in the Uptown area of Dallas.
Jeff returns to Dallas for his first hometown solo show, after completing his Master of Fine Arts at The School of Art Institute, Chicago. For Working On It, Jeff Parrott will present beautiful, color-rich works created with a diverse mix of multidimensional surfaces and materials, reflecting the artist's escapist love of color, lines, and texture.
Artist Statement
My work is an expression of “nothing” evolving into “something”. I’ve become entranced by the subtleties of paint and the boundless possibilities offered by the addition of color-altering mediums and mixed media. Beginning with a single brush stroke, the paint bends its way onto the space. Habit propels us to categorize and rationalize what we see. Observation affects perception. Closer examination reveals an answer simpler than mere rationality can provide, in turn, subjecting a viewer to the art of letting go. Releasing control over the tendency to look for a deeper meaning in a painting comprised of colors, lines, and textures, and willfully forgetting our reflex to search for a horizon or a point of origin in an attempt to orient ourselves, allows us to experience complete immersion without expectation. Accepting that there is no true “beginning” or “end”, we are awake with a new freedom. The natural ability to remain tranquil with the intrinsic knowledge that there will indeed be progress in our abilities to see – inwardly and outwardly – results from simultaneously caring and not giving a damn. Pontification of purpose is a non-point. There is peace in the necessity to realize simply this: “it is what it is” – and I am always working on it.
